American Express launched Small Business Saturday for the first time on November 27, 2010 in Roslindale Village, Massachusetts. It was introduced as a day to celebrate and support small mom and pop businesses on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.
The event started in a big city but as the years went by, it began popping up more and more in smaller cities across the country. By the time #SmallBizSat came around in 2014, notoriety of the holiday shopping tradition had grown so much that an estimated $14.3 billion was spent shopping small. The following year, over 95 million people turned out to support their local small businesses.

This year, the Napa Riverfront shops invite the community to come out and enjoy Small Business Saturday on November 26, 2016. Between the Riverfront and Historic Napa Mill, there are 12 restaurant or bars, 13 shops and lodging at the Napa River Inn.
